Alaska OX Numbers
Lot of people ask me about the details of our journey, for all of you, this is some of the most important information:
Members: 3 (Sergio Pinillos, Johannes Valero y Luis Vassallo).
From California to Florida…
After the adrenaline rush in Six Flags, we took the route to Aliso Viejo, a city south of Los Angeles. We had to take a detour to get to the famous city of angels since the city was going to close a very busy highway to rebuilt one of its bridges, so a great traffic jam was expected, fortunately this event was widely advised by the media and we could avoid it.
From Oregon to California
Our visit to Crater Lake NP, was an incentive to explore and seek new beautiful views and sceneries Turing the expedition. There had been many days of being surrounded by white-peaked mountains, pines and lakes that this view had become relatively monotonous. But this lake was different, the color of the water and its location inside a volcano’s crater made it impressive.
Fairbanks to Seward
We started the day in Fairbanks eager to continue our way, this time south, to feel more close to Florida. But we couldn’t just start the way back in a hurry without making stops in so many interesting points we found on the way. The first stop was Anchorage, a big city I preferred to avoid (as always), but Sergio told us that he had a friend that live there and wanted to meet us. We got together with Valeria Rojas and her fiancé Alan Hartley, who invited us to their home to have some beers and explained us how a Colombian ended up living in Alaska…
Deadhorse… The Northern Mostpoint in the U.S.
There are 800 km separating Fairbanks from Deadhorse or Prudhoe Bay (it is known by both names). At first, there is a paved road full of curvy slopes, but the real challenge started on the famous Dalton Highway (the same highway featuring the History Channel Series: Ice Pioneers), one of the most dangerous roads on United States, due to the high amount of accidents relative to the low circulation of vehicles on it.
Prince George, BC to Fairbanks, Alaska
We left Prince George with the idea of arriving to White Horse in the Yukon Territory, but we didn’t expect all the inconveniences we found along the way. This is a long drive, more than 1600 Kms. on just regular highways with very few gas stations. After only 400 kilometers we had the first stop because there was a bad accident ahead.
Banff and Jasper National Parks
When we arrived to the town of Banff, we were impressed by its beauty. The streets showed luxurious hotels and buildings. The problem for us were the prices, of course. After visiting the city along with the many tourists that come to this town, we went to a campground accessible to our budget and enjoyed a hot barbecue since it got colder as the sun went down, around midnight.
